Our dedicated cleaning team ensures that the home is prepared for your arrival by 4:00. In the event that the house is ready before this time, we'll inform you and allow for an early check-in if desired.

On your drive to Southern Exposure Bay House, please note we don’t have a mailbox. To find our driveway once you're on Mary Ann Beach Road, watch for a red triangle reflector on the left-hand side of the road when you come over the little bridge. Our home is the next driveway after that reflector. Watch for the white wagon wheels that line our driveway and you’ll see the address on the post behind the wagon wheel.

IMPORTANT: GPS typically takes you one street over to Bay Haven Circle. If that happens, come back out to Mary Ann Beach Road and take a right and another right onto our driveway.

​

PARKING

Southern Exposure Bay House offers ample parking spaces for your convenience. We kindly request that you avoid parking on the grass to preserve the beauty of the surroundings.

 

CARGO LIFT

Upon your arrival, utilize the cargo lift for swift and efficient unpacking of your belongings. Prior to operation, ensure that the gates are securely closed. The lift will automatically stop upon reaching its destination. For safety reasons, refrain from storing items underneath the lift or allowing children to operate it.

If you'd like to extend your checkout time, simply let us know in advance. We'll do our best to accommodate your request based on availability.

 

BEFORE YOU LEAVE

Refer to the checklist below to ensure you've left the home tidy for our cleaning crew.

  • Keep all linens on the beds

  • Place all used towels in the laundry room

  • Clear the fridge and freezer of any food

  • Clean and store all dishes and appliances

  • Take all trash to the street

  • Return all furniture/items to original locations

  • Clean and cover the gas grill

  • Return coolers, chairs, kayaks, bikes, games, etc. to the RV barn

  • Clean boat dock, store cushions, remove crab traps from water, and remove all trash

  • Look under furniture, in closets, and in washer/dryer to make sure you have everything

  • Turn off all lights

  • Lock all doors (including screen room doors)

  • Send us a message when you leave

 

THE DOCK

Please be sure to pack away all the cushions, folding chairs and life jackets on the dock. Unexpected storms blow through and the wind will take anything not packed away and blow it into the bay. Please hose down the sinks if you've used to clean fish and be sure to check for any fish hooks you may have left behind. The crab traps and fish cage should also be packed away back inside the dock in the area by the sink. Finally, remove the any trash and take it to the street and turn off all lights.

THE GAME ROOM

Please clean up the room and pack any games away. Remove any trash and take it to the street and turn off all lights.

​

BIKES & KAYAKS

Please store all bikes back under the house. If you've used the kayaks, please use the hose under the deck by the driveway to rinse them off before returning to the RV barn along with the oars.

​

THE TRASH

Trash is picked up every Monday and will need to be moved to the street to be picked up. If you're staying at the house on Monday, please be sure to put the trash to the street so it is picked up.

​

IF YOU BROUGHT A PET

Please be sure to clean up after your pet - in the house and in the yard. You'll find a vacuum in the hall closet to help with pet hair. Under the house you'll find a pooper scooper to clean up the yard.

Please text us when you leave Southern Exposure Bay House so our cleaning team can prepare the house for the next guest. Whenever possible, we attempt to let our guest have early check-ins.

The bay house has high speed internet and wall mounted Roku televisions in the living room and each bedroom.

INTERNET CONNECTIVITY ISSUES

If you’re having internet connectivity issues, you may need to To restart the router This may potentially resolve internet connection issues. The router is found in the living room under the wall mounted television.​​ Simply unplug the power cable from the router, wait for about 30 seconds, then plug it back in. Allow a few minutes for the router to reboot fully. If problems persist, you may need to contact the internet service provider for further assistance. You’ll find the support number on the router.

WIFI EXTENDERS

Our property is equipped with WIFI extenders. These devices enhance the coverage and strength of our WIFI signal throughout the house, the dock, and the game center to ensure a reliable internet connection. You'll find an extender on the dock and in the gameroom.

FUR BABY SAFETY

We're thrilled to welcome you and your furry family members to Southern Exposure Bay House. As a pet-friendly home, we understand the importance of including pets in your vacation plans. Our home is on a protected bay and estuary that provides a serene environment filled with diverse wildlife. While enjoying the natural beauty, please remain mindful of local inhabitants such as hawks, owls, eagles, and alligators, ensuring the safety of both your pets and the wildlife.

 

FOR YOUR STAY

We have provided pet throw blankets to use during your stay. We expect pets will want to cuddle up with you. Please use the blankets to help with any “furry glitter” they may leave behind.​ You'll find extra food and water bowls can be found under the kitchen sink.

 

CLEAN UP

Please use the pooper scooper found under the house to clean up after your pet.

 

FAIRHOPE LOVES PETS

Fairhope is a very pet friendly town. Many restaurants with outdoor seating welcome pets, allowing you to dine al fresco while your furry friend relaxes by your side. Additionally, several shops and boutiques are pet-friendly, so you can enjoy browsing local treasures without leaving your pet behind.

Safety

PROTECTED ESTUARY

Your safety is our top priority during your stay at the bay house. Given our diverse ecosystem here in southern Alabama, it's possible you may encounter indigenous wildlife such as water moccasins, alligators, foxes, hawks, eagles, owls, and even river otters. Exercise caution, especially around water and bushes, and keep a close eye on children and pets.

SMOKE & CARBON MONOXIDE

The home is equipped with a functioning smoke detector in the hallway and a carbon monoxide detector in the master bedroom closet near the gas water heater.

​

FIRE EXTINGUISHER

Fire extinguishers are readily accessible, located on the wall in the kitchen by the door to the sunroom and under the kitchen sink.

 

FIRST AID KIT

A first aid kit is available in the top drawer next to the dishwasher.

We want to ensure your peace of mind during your stay at our property, which is why we have installed security cameras on the premises. These cameras are strategically placed to monitor the exterior of the property, helping to maintain the safety and security of both our guests and the property itself.

 

Please note that these cameras are solely for security purposes and are not intended to infringe upon your privacy during your stay. They do not monitor any indoor spaces of the property.

Boat Dock

EXPANSIVE BOAT DOCK

Designed for endless enjoyment, this dock is fully equipped for a day of fishing, crabbing, kayaking, boating, or simply basking in the sun.​​ Relax on the outdoor couch accommodating 6-8 guests, dine at the table for 4, catch some sun on one of the lounge chairs, or settle into a folding camp chair for a leisurely fishing session. With its generous covered living space, front deck, and side deck, there's ample room for everyone to savor the find a spot and enjoy the view!

FISH CLEANING STATION

Need to clean your catch? You'll find a large sink on the front deck, conveniently located for fish cleaning and washing up. Please make sure to clean up the area before you leave and watch for any stray fishing hooks you may have left behind. Please ONLY use the outside sink to clean fish. The sink in the covered porch area is not intended as a fish station.

FISHING CART

Stored in the RV Barn you'll find a fishing cart with buckets to use during your stay. Please clean and store back away before you leave.

​

BOAT LIFT

The boat dock features a brand-new boat lift for effortless overnight storage out of the water of your boat, wave runners or other water toys. The property offers ample parking space to store your boat or jet ski trailer. Please DO NOT PARK ON THE GRASS OR SEPTIC TANK. You'll find room on the driveway or RV Barn.

The bay house provides a range of outdoor equipment to enhance your stay and let you explore the property. Take advantage of our collection of bikes, including a tandem bike, a three-wheel bike, and various others suited to different ages and preferences. Before each season we do bike maintenance to fix them for our guests.  However, if you find one that needs maintenance, please let us know.

Explore Weeks Bay with our selection of seven kayaks, including a tandem kayak perfect for pairs. Safety is our priority, with life jackets available in the deck storage box on the dock. When kayaking in Weeks Bay, prioritize safety for a fun outing. Always wear a life jacket and check the weather forecast beforehand. The wind can kick up quickly, so you’ll want to watch the waves and make sure you can get back safely. Stay alert for obstacles and boat traffic, and tell someone your plans. Paddle with a friend for extra safety. Enjoy the bay responsibly and have a great time!

GAME ROOM

Whether you're in the mood for some friendly competition or simply want to unwind with your family, our game room is the perfect space for spending quality time together during your vacation.​​ Challenge friends and family to a spirited game of ping pong or test your skills on the basketball hoop. For a larger-than-life experience, engage in strategic battles with our gigantic Connect Four game!​ The game room also features a cozy living area that provides the perfect setting to unwind and engage in a leisurely game of tic-tac-toe or dominoes.

 

YARD GAMES

Stored in the RV Barn you'll find yard games like corn hole, horse shoes, badminton, bocce ball, and lawn Yahtzee! Feel free to set these games up close to the house in the yard or the driveway. Please store all games back in the RV Barn.

PUZZLES & GAMES

In the laundry closet off the Pelican bedroom, you'll find an assortment of puzzles and board games in the white cabinet. A puzzle table is tucked away between the wall and the cabinet. The sunroom is a great spot to set up a puzzle on the puzzle table and enjoy the view. The puzzle table can be used for puzzles or games and makes it easy to move if you need to use the table.

BOOKS

You'll find an assortment of books throughout the house. We've purchased many books about the local area, fishing, and Fairhope. We have a small library on the wall in the sunroom. Additional books can be found in the white cabinet in laundry closet of the Pelican room. You'll find books for all ages.

​

FIRE PIT

Enjoy the evening with a fire and a view of the water. Our small fire pit has 2 Adirondack chairs to use by the fire. You'll find additional red plastic Adirondack chairs to use in the RV Barn. If you're making smores, you'll find marshmallow roasting sticks in the house. (they should be in the drawer by the dishwasher that has the grill utensils)

OPEN CONCEPT KITCHEN

The newly renovated kitchen is designed for you to gather everyone together for an unforgettable vacation. The open-concept kitchen and living room offer an ideal space with breathtaking bay views. The kitchen boasts modern conveniences, including a side-by-side refrigerator with a convenient filtered water and ice dispenser, electric stovetop, wall oven, microwave, dishwasher, and coffee station.

SEATING

There are several seating options at the bay house. The island has seating for 12 around the island and is a great option for gathering everyone together. The sunroom offers another table with seating for 4 - or more if you use the small table and chairs found in the living room. Finally, the side porch offers outdoor dining options with a table with seating for 6, as well as casual seating for an additional 8.

OUTDOOR GRILLS

For outdoor chefs, the bay house has an Expert Grill 3 Burner Gas Grill and Pellet Smoker Combo Grill. This grill allows you to cook using two different disciplines at the same time. You can grill and sear on the 3 burner liquid propane grill on one side, and you can smoke and slow cook some delicious foods using the pellet grill on the other side. If more cooking space is needed, a Char-grill gas grill is available, as well as a smaller charcoal grill. All grill utensils are stored in the house in a drawer next to the dishwasher. If you use the grill during your stay, please be sure to clean the grill after you use, dump the grease pan, and cover the grill. All grill utensils should be cleaned and stored back in the house.

Living Room

GATHERING SPOT

The living room has an oversize sectional and ottoman with plenty of room to gather together to watch your favorite team or stream a movie. Everyone has a place to sit with the additional swivel rocker, chair and ottoman. The small table and two chairs located behind the couch offers a perfect place to have a meal or play a game of cards while watching the tv. Throw blankets are available, as well as pet blankets for folks traveling with their fur baby. Everyone can cuddle up on the couch!

75 INCH SMART TV

The bay house has a large smart tv mounted to the wall in the living room. This TV (and all in the bedrooms) are Roku televisions that allow you to easily sign on to your streaming services to watch a movie or show.

EVERY BEDROOM

We've tried to think of everything you may need for a great stay at the bay house. So, in each bedroom you'll find a Smart Roku TV mounted to the wall. You'll also find USB chargers in convenient locations to charge your electronics. Ceiling fans are in each room along with table top fans. Small baskets and a laundry basket are available to help you store items during your stay. You’ll find these throughout the room and in the bedroom closet.

THE PELICAN MASTER BEDROOM

We've themed this room for the pelican's you’ll see on the bay. This is the main master bedroom and it is HUGE! The bedroom has a king size bed, a twin daybed, and a twin trundle. The trundle twin bed is only set with the corner sheets. You’ll find the additional bedding, blankets, and pillows stored the walk-in closet.

​

This room has private access to the screen porch that offers a beautiful view of the bay. It also offers a seating area with a recliner to kick back and watch a movie. 

​

The huge walk-in closet also serves as the laundry room. It also has a cabinet to store board games, puzzles and books. Yoga mats and hand weights can be found here. In addition, you can access the en suite bathroom from the closet. 

​

THE DOLPHIN MASTER BEDROOM

The dolphin bedroom has an amazing view of the bay! Don’t be surprised to look out the windows and see dolphin swimming by. This room also has a king size bed, a twin daybed, and a twin trundle. The trundle twin bed is only set with the corner sheets. You’ll find the additional bedding, blankets, and pillows stored the walk-in closetThis bedroom also has private access to the screen porch.

THE TURTLE BEDROOM

This room has a turtle theme to honor the many turtles swimming in the bay. It offers a view of the front garden and two queen beds. This room is set up with a desk, a chair and a glider rocker. The closet in this room is oversize with space to store your luggage. You'll find the bigger kitchen appliances stored in this closet, along with a computer monitor and printer.

THE FROG ROOM

This room has a frog theme to honor the many, many LOUD frogs you’ll see and hear on the property. This room has a king size bed and bunk bed with full size beds. The bunk bed full size mattresses are only set with the corner sheets. You’ll find the additional bedding, blankets, and pillows stored the walk-in closet. The closet also has luggage racks and a table for personal items.

Bathrooms

EVERY BATHROOM

We provide large soft bath towels that are a nice step up from your typical hotel towels. Each bathroom also has extra wash cloths, hand soap, Qtips, cotton balls, and make-up mirrors.

​

MASTER BATH

This en suite bathroom is in the Pelican master bedroom. It is a large bathroom offering handicap bars for support by the toilet and in the shower. It offers a long vanity with one sink, a jetted garden tub, and a walk in shower (there is a small step to get into the shower). This bathroom also has a door into the walk-in closet/laundry room.

HALL BATH

This full bathroom is available near all the bedrooms in the hallway. It offers a bathtub shower combination. It has a single sink. Several shelves and baskets are available to help organize your toiletries during your stay.

​

SEPTIC TANK

The bay house is not on city sewer. So, please ONLY flush toilet paper.

Sunroom

BEST VIEW IN THE HOUSE

The sunroom has two walls of windows and the best view in the house. Two oversized chairs and ottomans are perfect to for relaxing and watching the sunrise with a cup of coffee. Everyone loves spending time in this room - even the fur-babies. Our dog's favorite spot is laying on the ottomans and looking out the windows!

​

The room has a dining table with seating for six when you grab the two chairs from the living room. This table is perfect for meals - but also for games and puzzles. Working on a puzzle and watching the bay is a wonderful way to spend the day! There is also a small bookshelf with a variety of books for all ages, as well as a side table with games and toys. 

​

The sunroom has sliding doors that open into the kitchen, as well as an outside door to the side porch.

​

BEAT THE HEAT

To keep the sunroom and the house cool in the summer heat, make sure to pull the blinds in the early morning after the sun rises. Later in the morning you can pull them back up. Also, close the sliding glass doors can help keep the house cool.

Porches

SIDE PORCH

The HUGE side porch of the bay house offers an amazing view of the bay. With plenty of seating, it is a great place to gather and enjoy the view, have a meal, or relax and play a game. â€‹From the porch you can enter the house through two doors - one opens to the kitchen and the other opens to the sunroom.​ The porch has a lounge area with seating for 8 and a dining table with seating for 6.

​

SCREEN PORCH

Accessed through the Dolphin bedroom and the Pelican bedroom, this porch has 2 couches, 2 chairs, and an ottoman. It has a great view of the bay and is a wonderful spot to watch the wildlife or enjoy a rain storm.

​

FRONT PORCH

The front porch offers seating to watch the birds and wildlife at the front of the house.

​

SMOKING

Smoking is not allowed in the house. The three porches are the only places where it is allowed. You'll find a bucket of sand for your cigarette butts.
